Terms of Service
Last updated 26 August 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and ScrubSafe. By creating an account or using the service you accept them. If you are agreeing on behalf of a firm, you confirm you are authorised to bind that firm.
1. What ScrubSafe does
ScrubSafe reads a Word or PDF document you upload, detects information that looks sensitive — names, addresses, Social Insurance Numbers, contact details, financial figures, case identifiers and similar — replaces each with a consistent placeholder, and returns the modified document together with a report of what was replaced.
2. ScrubSafe is a tool, not advice, and not a guarantee
This is the most important term on this page.
- ScrubSafe does not provide legal advice and does not create a solicitor-client relationship.
- Automated detection is not complete or certain. It can miss sensitive information, and it can replace text that was not sensitive. No automated tool can guarantee otherwise.
- Handwriting, including signatures, is not read. Typed text inside scanned pages and images is read by optical character recognition, which is itself imperfect.
- Every run produces a report of what changed, and the service tells you how many images it could not read. You are responsible for reviewing the output before you share or rely on it.
You remain responsible for your professional and ethical obligations, including those owed to clients and to your law society.
3. Your account
Sign-in uses a one-time code sent to your email address; there is no password. Keep access to that mailbox secure — anyone who can read it can sign in as you. Tell us promptly at support@scrubsafe.ai if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission. Accounts are for a named individual and are not to be shared.
4. Your documents and your rights in them
You keep all rights in the documents you upload. You grant ScrubSafe only the permission needed to process a document for you and return the result — nothing else. We do not use your documents to train artificial-intelligence models, and our detection provider is engaged under terms that exclude training use.
You confirm that you have the right to upload each document and to have it processed as described in these terms and in our Privacy Policy.
5. Acceptable use
- Do not upload malicious files, or attempt to disrupt, overload, probe or reverse-engineer the service.
- Do not use ScrubSafe to conceal information you are legally required to preserve, produce or disclose.
- Do not use ScrubSafe unlawfully, or to infringe anyone's rights.
- Do not resell or provide the service to third parties without our written agreement.
6. Limits
Uploads are subject to a maximum file size, a fair-use page allowance per account, and a fair-use page limit per document; the current values are shown in the application. We may adjust these limits to keep the service available and affordable, and we may suspend an account that materially exceeds them.
7. Fees
Paid plans and their prices are shown on our pricing page. Billing is not switched on at present and accounts run on the free tier; when billing begins, prices, billing periods and any commitment term will be presented to you before you are charged, and these terms will be updated. Fees are in Canadian dollars unless stated otherwise and are exclusive of applicable taxes.
8. Availability
ScrubSafe is provided on an "as available" basis. We do not commit to a service level, and the service may be interrupted for maintenance, or by failures of infrastructure we do not control. A job that cannot be verified as fully processed is refused rather than returned, which means some uploads will fail by design.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent the law allows, ScrubSafe is provided without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will detect or remove all sensitive information.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, ScrubSafe will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, nor for lost profits, lost business, or loss of or unauthorised disclosure of data, arising out of or relating to your use of the service. Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the service will not exceed the greater of (a) the fees you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim and (b) CAD $100.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
11. Indemnity
You will indemnify ScrubSafe against claims arising from your breach of these terms, from your use of the service, or from your lack of rights in a document you uploaded.
12. Suspension and termination
You may stop using ScrubSafe and ask us to close your account at any time by writing to support@scrubsafe.ai. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, or where we are required to do so by law. Sections 2, 4, 9, 10 and 11 survive termination.
13. Changes
We may change these terms. If a change is material we will give notice by email or in the application before it takes effect. Continuing to use ScrubSafe after that date means you accept the change.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Saskatchewan and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, and the courts of that province have exclusive jurisdiction, without regard to conflict of laws rules.
